Meme! Women sff writers of the 1980s

[I wrote this two weeks ago, but don’t seem to have ever hit “publish”. Oops.]

I don’t usually do this sort of thing at all, but I started really reading SF and fantasy in the 80s as I hit my pre-teens/teens so I thought this might be rather fun/interesting. I got this from Ian Sales’ blog It Doesn’t Have to Be Right, which I’ve been following for a while. He also runs the wonderful SF Mistressworks blog, which seeks to review SFF by women, especially books that have slipped under the radar.

So, pulled from Ian’s blog:

Following on the from the previous meme, women sff writers of the 1970s, here’s a list from James Nicoll of women writers whose careers began in the 1980s. Again, italicise those you’ve heard of, bold those you’ve read at least one work by, and underline those whose work you own an example of. [I’m going to count “own” as including “I know I bought it to read it even if it’s been passed on to someone else in the intervening years”. K.]

  1. Strangely enough, even though I was born in the early 1970s I have read and owned far more of the authors of the 70s list than the 80s list … maybe my library was a decade or so behind the times in their purchasing …

  2. Oh you’ve done well! (There are so many authors on there I haven’t read 🙂
